Aside from seasoned AI researchers, game developers are at the forefront of creating believable friends and foes. From issues like making a character find an optimal route through a building, to creating opponents that strategically utilize the resources they are given, game developers day-in and day-out are trying to create challenging opponents and believable in-game characters. This can often be some of the hardest work associated with designing a successful game or simulation. Not only is it hard to design, but is also difficult to successfully program.
